Background, orientation <strong>and</strong> purpose<br />

GREECE<br />

Delta S<strong>in</strong>gular, a Vocational <strong>Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g</strong> Centre certified by the M<strong>in</strong>istry of Labour, was founded <strong>in</strong> 1995<br />

<strong>and</strong> is one of the lead<strong>in</strong>g vocational tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>stitutions <strong>in</strong> Greece. Its shareholders, the DELTA-<br />

SINGULAR <strong>and</strong> the SPACE-HELLAS, are well-known enterprises that hold a prom<strong>in</strong>ent position <strong>in</strong> their<br />

field <strong>in</strong> Greece. The Delta S<strong>in</strong>gular Educational Service, which is a tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g centre certified by the<br />

M<strong>in</strong>istry of Labour, organises tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g programmes, ma<strong>in</strong>ly for unemployed people, <strong>in</strong> the <strong>cultural</strong><br />

field. These sem<strong>in</strong>ars are aimed at equipp<strong>in</strong>g job-seekers with appropriate qualifications to meet the<br />

needs of the contemporary labour market.<br />

Organisation <strong>and</strong> Promotion of Art <strong>and</strong> Cultural Events.<br />

Average duration of 400 hours.<br />

Content<br />

Sem<strong>in</strong>ars <strong>and</strong> programmes <strong>in</strong> <strong>cultural</strong> subjects. Each year different sem<strong>in</strong>ars are organised depend<strong>in</strong>g<br />

on the needs of the Greek labour market. The ma<strong>in</strong> subject is <strong>cultural</strong> <strong>management</strong>. The programme<br />

structure is def<strong>in</strong>ed; there are no optional subjects. The sem<strong>in</strong>ars consist of theoretical <strong>and</strong> practical<br />

elements. The theoretical tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g takes place pr<strong>in</strong>cipally at the Delta S<strong>in</strong>gular Educational Service<br />

premises. Sometimes the sem<strong>in</strong>ars require the participants to visit several <strong>cultural</strong> sites. The practical<br />

tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g takes place with<strong>in</strong> <strong>cultural</strong> organisations. The participants undergo some evaluation dur<strong>in</strong>g the<br />

course of the sem<strong>in</strong>ars. The Delta S<strong>in</strong>gular Educational Service also organises programmes <strong>in</strong><br />

collaboration with City University, London. Organisation <strong>and</strong> Promotion of Art <strong>and</strong> Cultural Events. This<br />

is a comprehensive theoretical <strong>and</strong> practical tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the organisation <strong>and</strong> promotion of successful<br />

<strong>cultural</strong> events, particularly <strong>in</strong> the fields of the visual <strong>and</strong> perform<strong>in</strong>g arts, start<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> 2002. Tra<strong>in</strong>ees<br />

will be unemployed young tertiary education graduates. It is funded by the European Social Fund.<br />

International/European dimension<br />

The <strong>in</strong>stitution is a member of ENCATC.<br />

Evaluation <strong>and</strong> assessment<br />

Organisation <strong>and</strong> Promotion of Art <strong>and</strong> Cultural Events.<br />

Student performance is evaluated through exam<strong>in</strong>ations/papers <strong>and</strong> practical work/<strong>in</strong>ternship.<br />

Lecturers<br />

The lecturers <strong>in</strong>clude dist<strong>in</strong>guished tra<strong>in</strong>ers with long-term teach<strong>in</strong>g experience as well as<br />

professionals who hold a prom<strong>in</strong>ent position <strong>in</strong> the labour market. The number of teach<strong>in</strong>g personnel<br />

is 100, 70 of whom are women. All of them are visit<strong>in</strong>g. The person responsible for the study<br />

programme (Organisation <strong>and</strong> Promotion of Art <strong>and</strong> Cultural Events) is Dr E. Karpod<strong>in</strong>i Dimitriadi.<br />
