Background, orientation <strong>and</strong> purpose<br />

The Chair for Romance Cultural Studies <strong>and</strong> Inter<strong>cultural</strong> Communication <strong>in</strong> the University of Saarl<strong>and</strong><br />

was established <strong>in</strong> 1993. Its ma<strong>in</strong> objectives are research <strong>and</strong> teach<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>ter<strong>cultural</strong> communication,<br />

<strong>in</strong>ter<strong>cultural</strong> <strong>management</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>cultural</strong> studies.<br />

French Cultural Studies <strong>and</strong> Inter<strong>cultural</strong> Communication.<br />

Content<br />

The ma<strong>in</strong> objective of the programme is the development of <strong>in</strong>ter<strong>cultural</strong> skills <strong>and</strong> knowledge about<br />

francophone cultures; this allows students to participate <strong>in</strong> an <strong>in</strong>ter<strong>cultural</strong> work environment, <strong>in</strong><br />

particular, as <strong>cultural</strong> mediators between France <strong>and</strong> Germany. The deadl<strong>in</strong>e for applications is 15 July<br />

every year.<br />

Special <strong>in</strong>formation<br />

As special events related to the programme there are scientific conferences, mult<strong>in</strong>ational research<br />

sem<strong>in</strong>ars for the students <strong>and</strong> jo<strong>in</strong>t French-German events.<br />

Evaluation <strong>and</strong> assessment<br />

Student performance is evaluated through exam<strong>in</strong>ations, papers, a f<strong>in</strong>al paper/thesis, research <strong>and</strong><br />

practical work/<strong>in</strong>ternship.<br />

Lecturers<br />

The number of teach<strong>in</strong>g personnel is 3, 1 of whom is a woman. They are all permanent. There are also<br />

various teachers <strong>and</strong> students who contribute to the courses. The person responsible for the study<br />

programme is Prof. Dr Hans-Jürgen Lüsebr<strong>in</strong>k.<br />

Entry requirements<br />

Applicants should have a secondary school certificate <strong>and</strong> good knowledge of the French language.<br />
