Background, orientation <strong>and</strong> purpose<br />

The process of form<strong>in</strong>g this <strong>in</strong>stitution started <strong>in</strong> 1996 at the Faculty of Technology <strong>in</strong> Zl<strong>in</strong>, Technical<br />

University Brno. The Institute of Communication <strong>and</strong> Advertis<strong>in</strong>g (IRTMK) was formed <strong>in</strong> May 1997,<br />

<strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>cluded new departments of Animation, Photography <strong>and</strong> Market<strong>in</strong>g Communications. The<br />

Departments of Audio-Visual Creation <strong>and</strong> Three-Dimensional Presentation were added <strong>in</strong> 1998 <strong>and</strong><br />

the Department of Industrial Design <strong>in</strong> 2000.<br />

All the art departments are focused on creative discipl<strong>in</strong>es; the Department of Market<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Communications is focused on economics, sociology, psychology, where, however, a certa<strong>in</strong> creative<br />

approach is also needed.<br />

BA/MA <strong>in</strong> Market<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> Social Communications.<br />

BA/MA <strong>in</strong> Multimedia <strong>and</strong> Design.<br />

Duration<br />

3-5 years.<br />

Content<br />

The students aim to work <strong>in</strong> <strong>management</strong> positions as advertis<strong>in</strong>g professionals, art managers,<br />

designers <strong>and</strong> digital artists. Regardless of the programme chosen, students will receive uniquely<br />

<strong>in</strong>dividual attention to assist them <strong>in</strong> achiev<strong>in</strong>g personal <strong>and</strong> professional development goals. The<br />

majority of lecturers, professors <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>structors work or have worked <strong>in</strong> their fields of <strong>in</strong>struction.<br />

The department offers:<br />

- design <strong>and</strong> multimedia arts;<br />

- a well-balanced, comprehensive programme curriculum;<br />

- <strong>in</strong>ternships <strong>in</strong> advertis<strong>in</strong>g companies, <strong>cultural</strong> <strong>in</strong>stitutions <strong>and</strong> real-life experiences <strong>in</strong> their field; <strong>and</strong><br />

- fruitful cooperation with local <strong>cultural</strong> <strong>in</strong>stitutions;<br />

International/European dimension<br />

There are student exchange programmes with<strong>in</strong> the Czech Republic (Brno, Prague) <strong>and</strong> with the<br />

Slovak Republic (Bratislava). The <strong>in</strong>stitution is an associate member of ENCATC <strong>and</strong> a member of<br />

ELIA.<br />

Special <strong>in</strong>formation<br />

As extracurricular activities there are workshops, excursions <strong>and</strong> exhibitions.<br />

Lecturers<br />

The number of teach<strong>in</strong>g personnel is 101, of whom 21 are women. Thirty-four are permanent <strong>and</strong> the<br />

rest are visit<strong>in</strong>g. The person responsible for the study programmes is Jan Meisner.<br />
