Background, orientation <strong>and</strong> purpose<br />

Cultural <strong>and</strong> educational <strong>in</strong>stitutions are <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>gly <strong>in</strong> need of professionalism to provide a firm<br />

economic basis <strong>and</strong> uniform quality. The aim is to mix both spiritual <strong>and</strong> economical ideas to meet<br />

new dem<strong>and</strong>s <strong>in</strong> the field of <strong>cultural</strong> work. The course on offer gives people who are already work<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>in</strong> the <strong>cultural</strong> or educational fields the opportunity to broaden their professional skills.<br />

The further education course commenced at the HWP <strong>in</strong> the w<strong>in</strong>ter of 1989-90. S<strong>in</strong>ce 1993, the course<br />

contents have been offered as self-conta<strong>in</strong>ed units. These courses take place <strong>in</strong> the even<strong>in</strong>gs, at<br />

weekends or as an educational holiday. From these modules, the student can design his own course,<br />

while cont<strong>in</strong>u<strong>in</strong>g to work. Students can also enroll <strong>in</strong> general studies <strong>and</strong> media <strong>management</strong> courses.<br />

Certificate <strong>in</strong> Cultural <strong>and</strong> Educational Management.<br />

Duration<br />

Self-determ<strong>in</strong>ed, up to a total of 5 or 6 semester (3 years).<br />

Content<br />

Ma<strong>in</strong> topics are Cultural Animation, Cultural <strong>and</strong> Education Adm<strong>in</strong>istration, Cultural <strong>and</strong> Education<br />

Policy, <strong>and</strong> Cultural <strong>and</strong> Education Development.<br />

Study<strong>in</strong>g while work<strong>in</strong>g is possible. All courses are taught <strong>in</strong> German.<br />

The deadl<strong>in</strong>e for the applications for the summer semester is January 2003.<br />

International/European dimension<br />

The Programme <strong>in</strong>cludes topics such as <strong>cultural</strong> fund<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> Europe <strong>and</strong> European <strong>cultural</strong> <strong>policy</strong>. The<br />

<strong>in</strong>stitution is a member of ENCATC.<br />

Evaluation <strong>and</strong> assessment<br />

Student performance is evaluated through exam<strong>in</strong>ations <strong>and</strong> papers.<br />

Lecturers<br />

The number of teach<strong>in</strong>g personnel is 20, 4 of whom are women. All are visit<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

Entry requirements<br />

Entry requirements are a degree, a qualify<strong>in</strong>g occupational tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g or one year of practical experience<br />

<strong>in</strong> the <strong>cultural</strong> <strong>and</strong> educational area. Completion of A-Level is not necessary.<br />

Student profile<br />

Students come from all fields of culture <strong>and</strong> education. The average age is 35. There are no foreign<br />

students.<br />

Number of students admitted<br />

From 20 to 25 students per course.<br />
