Background, orientation <strong>and</strong> purpose<br />

Profiles: Pol<strong>and</strong><br />

The Faculty of Management <strong>and</strong> Social Communication aims at the fullest response possible to current<br />

challenges, at a level reach<strong>in</strong>g the University’s traditions <strong>and</strong> aspirations. Established <strong>in</strong> 1996, the<br />

School of Cultural Management offers a complete university course <strong>in</strong> <strong>cultural</strong> <strong>management</strong>. The<br />

programme is run at all university levels - BA, MA, postgraduate, as well as PhD studies.<br />

BA <strong>in</strong> Cultural Management (full-time <strong>and</strong> part-time/extramural).<br />

MA <strong>in</strong> Cultural Management (full-time <strong>and</strong> part-time/extramural).<br />

PhD studies <strong>in</strong> Cultural Management.<br />

Content<br />

BA <strong>in</strong> Cultural Management:<br />

Ma<strong>in</strong> subjects <strong>in</strong>clude philosophy, ethics, sociology, various aspects of law, economy, <strong>management</strong><br />

theory, market<strong>in</strong>g, public relations, project <strong>management</strong>, <strong>cultural</strong> <strong>policy</strong> models, protection of <strong>cultural</strong><br />

heritage, basics of history <strong>and</strong> theory of arts - music, theatre, visual arts, literature. There is a<br />

practical placement for 1 month <strong>in</strong> two different <strong>in</strong>stitutions. The deadl<strong>in</strong>e for applications is May/June<br />

every year.<br />

MA <strong>in</strong> Cultural Management:<br />

Various aspects of economics <strong>and</strong> law (for non-profit organisations), the market<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> <strong>management</strong><br />

of culture, economic <strong>and</strong> legal aspects of European <strong>in</strong>tegration, <strong>cultural</strong> <strong>policy</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>management</strong> <strong>in</strong><br />

European countries, areas of culture. The deadl<strong>in</strong>e for applications is May/June every year.<br />

Post-graduate Diploma <strong>in</strong> Cultural Management:<br />

Examples of modules <strong>in</strong>clude <strong>cultural</strong> <strong>policy</strong> at the local <strong>and</strong> regional level; European models of<br />

<strong>cultural</strong> <strong>policy</strong>; legal aspects of non-profit <strong>cultural</strong> organisations; the economics of culture; museum<br />

<strong>and</strong> gallery <strong>management</strong>; <strong>and</strong> theatre <strong>management</strong>. The deadl<strong>in</strong>e for applications is September every<br />

year.<br />

PhD studies <strong>in</strong> Cultural Management:<br />

Individual academic research with<strong>in</strong> the student’s chosen field <strong>in</strong> <strong>cultural</strong> <strong>policy</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>management</strong>. The<br />

deadl<strong>in</strong>e for applications is June <strong>and</strong> September every year.<br />
