SLOVAKIA<br />
The role of the UNESCO Chair, established <strong>in</strong> 2001, is to coord<strong>in</strong>ate the development of research <strong>and</strong><br />
tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>cultural</strong> <strong>policy</strong> <strong>and</strong> arts <strong>management</strong> at University level across all three faculties of the<br />
VSMU (Faculty of Music <strong>and</strong> Dance, Faculty of Film <strong>and</strong> TV <strong>and</strong> Faculty of Drama <strong>and</strong> Puppetry), tak<strong>in</strong>g<br />
<strong>in</strong>to account the major changes that are occurr<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the fields of arts <strong>and</strong> culture.<br />
Short-term objectives are to:<br />
provide specialised short term courses for students of the VSMU as well as <strong>in</strong>terested practitioners; to<br />
design a study programme focus<strong>in</strong>g on <strong>policy</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>management</strong> <strong>in</strong> the fields of theatre, music, dance<br />
<strong>and</strong> film;<br />
share experience with other countries <strong>and</strong> professional sectors <strong>in</strong> specific areas;<br />
promote the urgent need for the tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g of new professionals <strong>in</strong> the fields of <strong>cultural</strong> <strong>policy</strong>, arts <strong>and</strong><br />
culture;<br />
simulate the application of new arts <strong>and</strong> <strong>cultural</strong> concepts <strong>in</strong> relevant societal conditions;<br />
design teach<strong>in</strong>g materials, tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g modules <strong>and</strong> efficient <strong>in</strong>formation systems;<br />
establish cooperation with <strong>cultural</strong> managers <strong>in</strong> order to promote the development of an underly<strong>in</strong>g<br />
theoretical basis <strong>and</strong> improve study programmes rooted <strong>in</strong> praxis;<br />
strengthen creative relations with arts <strong>and</strong> <strong>cultural</strong> <strong>in</strong>stitutions <strong>and</strong> organisations;<br />
survey the current situation <strong>and</strong> ongo<strong>in</strong>g change <strong>in</strong> <strong>cultural</strong> <strong>policy</strong> arts <strong>and</strong> the <strong>cultural</strong> environment;<br />
<strong>and</strong><br />
develop <strong>in</strong>ternational cooperation <strong>in</strong> culture <strong>management</strong> tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g with<strong>in</strong> the NETCULT (UNESCO<br />
Chairs) <strong>and</strong> ENCATC networks.<br />
Long-term objectives are to:<br />
strengthen theory <strong>and</strong> practice <strong>in</strong> arts <strong>and</strong> <strong>cultural</strong> <strong>policy</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>management</strong>;<br />
describe identifiable differences with<strong>in</strong> education, tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g, research <strong>and</strong> professional experience <strong>in</strong> the<br />
arts <strong>and</strong> <strong>cultural</strong> <strong>policy</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>management</strong>;<br />
secure <strong>in</strong>terdiscipl<strong>in</strong>ary <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>tegrated approaches <strong>in</strong> education, arts <strong>and</strong> <strong>cultural</strong> <strong>policy</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />
<strong>management</strong> tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g;<br />
support cooperation among tra<strong>in</strong>ers, research <strong>and</strong> executive managers active <strong>in</strong> the arts <strong>and</strong> culture;<br />
create a favourable environment for all <strong>in</strong>stitutions <strong>and</strong> professionals <strong>in</strong> the given field, with the aim of<br />
exchang<strong>in</strong>g experience <strong>and</strong> practical skills <strong>and</strong> encourag<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>ternational relations <strong>and</strong> <strong>cultural</strong> <strong>policy</strong>;<br />
foster a practical orientation for artistic education;<br />
gradually transform the UNESCO Chair <strong>in</strong>to the Arts Development <strong>and</strong> Adm<strong>in</strong>istration Centre;<br />
