Background, orientation <strong>and</strong> purpose<br />

The Charity Foundation for the Support <strong>and</strong> Development of Art-therapy programmes, ’In Search of<br />

Harmony’, was established <strong>in</strong> St. Petersburg <strong>in</strong> June 1997 as a public non-profit organisation. The<br />

Foundation was set up by specialists who work <strong>in</strong> the field of social, psychological <strong>and</strong> creative<br />

rehabilitation of people who are socially isolated to a major extent due to their specific physical <strong>and</strong><br />

psychological problems. It co-operates closely with <strong>in</strong>ternational, national <strong>and</strong> local educational<br />

<strong>in</strong>stitutions <strong>and</strong> art centres.<br />

The Foundation’s aims are to assist with professional tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> refresher courses <strong>in</strong> art therapy; to<br />

form a network of organisations <strong>and</strong> specialists deal<strong>in</strong>g with socio-<strong>cultural</strong> projects <strong>in</strong> Russia; <strong>and</strong> to<br />

assist with provid<strong>in</strong>g psychological help <strong>and</strong> support by art therapy methods to disabled people.<br />

Programme(s) <strong>and</strong> qualification(s)<br />

Programme I<br />

Objective: To participate <strong>in</strong> the professional tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g of specialists <strong>in</strong> the field of art therapy, develop<br />

<strong>and</strong> implement new forms of art therapy, <strong>and</strong> re-tra<strong>in</strong> <strong>cultural</strong> workers.<br />

Programme II<br />

Objective: To develop <strong>and</strong> appraise the work<strong>in</strong>g model of permanent creative workshops that would<br />

<strong>in</strong>tegrate different social groups <strong>in</strong> the creative process, such as adults <strong>and</strong> children, the healthy <strong>and</strong><br />

h<strong>and</strong>icapped, established artists, musicians <strong>and</strong> actors.<br />

Programme III<br />

Objective: To support the art therapy work of specialists <strong>and</strong> enhance aid to children with serious<br />

communication problems (children’s autism).<br />

Programme IV<br />

Objective: To promote art therapy as a method of psychological work employ<strong>in</strong>g the potential of art;<br />

to def<strong>in</strong>e its position <strong>in</strong> modern systems of psycho-pedagogical, psychotherapeutic <strong>and</strong> rehabilitation<br />

measures.<br />
