Background, orientation <strong>and</strong> purpose<br />

The Institut für Kulturelle Infrastruktur Sachsen was founded 1994 after two years of prelim<strong>in</strong>ary<br />

work. In 1999, it moved from Dresden to the German-Polish “European town”, Görlitz/Zgorzelec,<br />

establish<strong>in</strong>g itself <strong>in</strong> the UNESCO-Haus Kl<strong>in</strong>gewald. The Institut concentrates on <strong>cultural</strong> policies,<br />

<strong>cultural</strong> economics <strong>and</strong> <strong>cultural</strong> <strong>management</strong> through academic research, academic teach<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong><br />

consultancies.<br />

Content<br />

Bachelor / Master <strong>in</strong> UNESCO-Studiengang Kultur und Management:<br />

Both courses cover 3 areas: social competence; aesthetic competence; economic competence. A<br />

network of 180 <strong>in</strong>stitutions worldwide is available for work placements. The bachelor programme is a<br />

3-year course <strong>in</strong> <strong>cultural</strong> economics, offered by the Hochschule Zittau/Görlitz <strong>and</strong> the Institute,<br />

start<strong>in</strong>g every w<strong>in</strong>ter term.<br />

The master’s programme is a 2-year <strong>in</strong>ternational course <strong>in</strong> <strong>cultural</strong> economics, offered by the<br />

Technische Universität Dresden <strong>and</strong> the Institute, start<strong>in</strong>g every summer.<br />

Collegium Pontes Görlitz - research <strong>in</strong> east-west heteronomics; PhD Programme Cultural Policy,<br />

Cultural Economics - scientific research <strong>in</strong> <strong>cultural</strong> economics <strong>and</strong> <strong>cultural</strong> <strong>policy</strong>.<br />

International/European dimension<br />

The courses <strong>in</strong>vestigate artistic projects on tour through Europe <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>clude lead<strong>in</strong>g European artists.<br />

The students come from 10 European <strong>and</strong> non-European countries. The <strong>in</strong>stitution is a member of<br />

ENCATC.<br />

Special <strong>in</strong>formation<br />

As special events related to the programmes there are projects with <strong>in</strong>ternational artists (theatre,<br />

music, dance, f<strong>in</strong>e arts, video).<br />

Evaluation <strong>and</strong> assessment<br />

Bachelor / Master’s <strong>in</strong> UNESCO-Studiengang Kultur und Management:<br />

Student performance is evaluated through participation <strong>in</strong> the programme.<br />

Student performance is evaluated through a f<strong>in</strong>al paper/thesis.<br />
