Background, orientation <strong>and</strong> purpose<br />

The University of Sheffield was established <strong>in</strong> 1905. Its mission is to ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> the highest st<strong>and</strong>ards of<br />

excellence as a research-led <strong>in</strong>stitution, whose staff work at the frontiers of academic enquiry <strong>and</strong><br />

educate students <strong>in</strong> a research environment.<br />

Master’s degree - 12 months.<br />

Content<br />

The ma<strong>in</strong> objectives of the programme are to <strong>in</strong>troduce students to core <strong>management</strong> discipl<strong>in</strong>es <strong>and</strong><br />

to enable them to apply <strong>management</strong> pr<strong>in</strong>ciples to arts <strong>and</strong> heritage contexts with confidence.<br />

Applications are accepted until the September before the course starts, depend<strong>in</strong>g on the availability<br />

of places.<br />

Evaluation <strong>and</strong> assessment<br />

Student performance is evaluated through research <strong>and</strong> a f<strong>in</strong>al paper/thesis.<br />

Lecturers<br />

The number of teach<strong>in</strong>g personnel is 3, of which 1 is a woman. All are permanent. The person<br />

responsible for the study programme is Kirsten Holmes (Course Leader).<br />

Entry requirements<br />

For the Master’s degree, applicants should have a university degree; appropriate experience is<br />

desirable. For entry to the diploma level, applicants are accepted with vocational qualifications <strong>and</strong><br />

work experience. They can progress to the Master’s if successful on the taught programme. All<br />

applicants whose mother tongue is not English must have an English language qualification (either<br />

IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 600/250).<br />
