Background, orientation <strong>and</strong> purpose<br />

The Ludwig-Maximilians-University was established <strong>in</strong> 1472. Its Department of General <strong>and</strong><br />

Comparative Literature; Sc<strong>and</strong><strong>in</strong>avian Studies offers a higher education programme specifically<br />

designed for book science <strong>and</strong> the publish<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>dustry. The tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g leads to all fields of publish<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

The department also carries out research <strong>in</strong> book <strong>and</strong> bookseller statistics.<br />

Content<br />

Cont<strong>in</strong>u<strong>in</strong>g Education <strong>in</strong> Book Science:<br />

This postgraduate study is a 2-semester book science programme. The deadl<strong>in</strong>e for applications is<br />

mid-August each year.<br />

Higher Education <strong>in</strong> Book Science:<br />

This is an 8-semester book science programme, divided <strong>in</strong>to three m<strong>and</strong>atory subspecialties. Students<br />

are required to attend courses <strong>in</strong> Book Science, Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Management <strong>and</strong> an elective study topic of<br />

their choice (ie. language, literature, psychology). The deadl<strong>in</strong>e for the applications is July 15th each<br />

year.<br />

Evaluation <strong>and</strong> assessment<br />

Student performance is constantly evaluated throughout participation <strong>in</strong> the programme <strong>and</strong> dur<strong>in</strong>g<br />

research.<br />

Lecturers<br />

There are two teach<strong>in</strong>g personnel, one of whom is a woman. Both are permanent. There are also 60<br />

guest lecturers. The person responsible for the study programmes is Prof. Dr Georg Jäger.<br />

Entry requirements<br />

Cont<strong>in</strong>u<strong>in</strong>g Education <strong>in</strong> Book Science:<br />

Applicants should have a university degree <strong>and</strong> four months work experience <strong>in</strong> a publish<strong>in</strong>g company.<br />

Higher Education <strong>in</strong> Book Science:<br />

Applicants should have experience of work<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> a book shop or publish<strong>in</strong>g company for two to three<br />

years.<br />
