Background, orientation <strong>and</strong> purpose<br />

Luiss Management is a bus<strong>in</strong>ess school set up <strong>in</strong> 1997 by LUISS Guido Carli University, with the aim of<br />

establish<strong>in</strong>g an important <strong>management</strong> tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>stitution <strong>in</strong> the Italian capital that is <strong>in</strong>dependent<br />

from the University but not separate from it. It is open to <strong>and</strong> welcomes contributions of knowledge<br />

<strong>and</strong> experience from the bus<strong>in</strong>ess environment, professionals <strong>and</strong> centres of managerial knowledge.<br />

Luiss Management is strongly oriented to quality <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>novation <strong>and</strong> is particularly conscious of<br />

change <strong>in</strong> the <strong>cultural</strong> environment. It is one of the most important <strong>and</strong> consistent Italian <strong>in</strong>stitutions<br />

<strong>in</strong> the field of <strong>management</strong> tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g, with a network of about 100 <strong>in</strong>ternal employees, 200 course<br />

designers <strong>and</strong> more than 1,000 tra<strong>in</strong>ers.<br />

Content<br />

Cultural Management:<br />

This <strong>in</strong>itiative aims at develop<strong>in</strong>g the themes of Cultural Management, through the study of<br />

operational logistics <strong>and</strong> the analysis of real models. The deadl<strong>in</strong>e for applications is 20 September<br />

2002.<br />

Cultural Heritage Management:<br />

The ma<strong>in</strong> objective is <strong>in</strong>-depth study how to manage <strong>and</strong> develop <strong>cultural</strong> heritage, keep<strong>in</strong>g legal<br />

change <strong>in</strong> m<strong>in</strong>d.<br />

Museum Management:<br />

This programme, begun <strong>in</strong> 2003, is aimed at employees <strong>in</strong> the public museum sector as well as those<br />

<strong>in</strong> private enterprises. The deadl<strong>in</strong>e for applications is <strong>in</strong> January 2003.<br />

Special <strong>in</strong>formation<br />

For students <strong>in</strong> the Cultural Management programme there will be, <strong>in</strong> addition to classroom activities,<br />

a full programme of guided visits to museums, theatres <strong>and</strong> archaeological sites of Rome.<br />

Evaluation <strong>and</strong> assessment<br />

Student performance is evaluated throughout the programmes.<br />

Lecturers<br />

The number of teach<strong>in</strong>g personnel is 500, 30 percent of whom are women. Twenty percent are<br />

permanent <strong>and</strong> the rest are visit<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
