Background, orientation <strong>and</strong> purpose<br />

The Munich Academy For Television <strong>and</strong> Film was established <strong>in</strong> 1967. It provides tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g for careers<br />

<strong>in</strong> film <strong>and</strong> television: story editors, script analysts, directors, production managers <strong>and</strong> producers.<br />

The Academy’s goal is to give its students a deep underst<strong>and</strong><strong>in</strong>g of audio <strong>and</strong> visual media. For that<br />

reason, theory <strong>and</strong> practice <strong>and</strong> the development <strong>and</strong> production of film are all given equal emphasis.<br />

Programme(s) <strong>and</strong> qualification(s)<br />

Feature Film <strong>and</strong> Television Feature.<br />

Film <strong>and</strong> Television Documentary.<br />

Production <strong>and</strong> Media Bus<strong>in</strong>ess.<br />

It is possible to specialise <strong>in</strong> c<strong>in</strong>ematography <strong>in</strong> both the Feature Film <strong>and</strong> Television Feature<br />

department <strong>and</strong> the Film <strong>and</strong> Television Documentary department.<br />

The courses <strong>in</strong> the departments of ‘Communication <strong>and</strong> Media Theory’ <strong>and</strong> ‘Technique’ are m<strong>and</strong>atory<br />

for all students whatever their ma<strong>in</strong> field of study. These two departments do not accept full time<br />

students.<br />

There is also <strong>in</strong>ter-department tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> courses <strong>in</strong> the follow<strong>in</strong>g subjects:<br />

- Applied Aesthetics, Image Composition <strong>and</strong> C<strong>in</strong>ematography;<br />

- Dramaturgy <strong>and</strong> Development;<br />

- Television Journalism; <strong>and</strong><br />

- Advertis<strong>in</strong>g, PR <strong>and</strong> Image film.<br />

Duration<br />

4 years.<br />

Content<br />

Feature Film <strong>and</strong> Television Movie:<br />

This programme, with its comb<strong>in</strong>ation of history, theory <strong>and</strong> practical experience, is geared to<br />

academic subjects as well as to the creative development of the students’ talents, with an emphasis<br />

on team work. Upon graduation, the students will have knowledge of all aspects of technical <strong>and</strong><br />

practical matters of film <strong>and</strong> electronic productions, be it organisation, research, or story<br />

development. A basic component of the studies is to produce two films.<br />

Film <strong>and</strong> Television Documentary:<br />

This programme tra<strong>in</strong>s directors, editors, <strong>and</strong> writers <strong>in</strong> the fields of documentary journalism, up-todate<br />

report<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> docudrama. Other topics are child <strong>and</strong> youth programmes on television,<br />

educational films, experimental studies for film <strong>and</strong> video <strong>and</strong> feature film.<br />

Produc<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> Media Economics:<br />

This programme leads to graduation as a production manager, media manager or producer.<br />
