Background, orientation <strong>and</strong> purpose<br />

The Institute of Art History <strong>and</strong> Center for Cont<strong>in</strong>u<strong>in</strong>g Education at the University of Bern has been<br />

offer<strong>in</strong>g a University Diploma of Postgraduate Studies Art + Profession s<strong>in</strong>ce 1999.<br />

Content<br />

The Post-graduate Studies Art + Profession covers the h<strong>and</strong>l<strong>in</strong>g of mobile works of art <strong>and</strong> related<br />

fields such as teach<strong>in</strong>g art, museology, collect<strong>in</strong>g, deal<strong>in</strong>g with art, conservation <strong>and</strong> restoration, value<br />

systems, <strong>management</strong> <strong>and</strong> market<strong>in</strong>g, legal status of works of art <strong>and</strong> government regulations,<br />

together with art of our times. The deadl<strong>in</strong>e for applications is March 2003.<br />

Evaluation <strong>and</strong> assessment<br />

Student performance is evaluated through exam<strong>in</strong>ations, papers, f<strong>in</strong>al paper/thesis <strong>and</strong> practical<br />

work/<strong>in</strong>ternship.<br />

Lecturers<br />

The number of teach<strong>in</strong>g personnel is 60, 21 of whom are women. Only one of the lecturers is<br />

permanent, the rema<strong>in</strong>der are visit<strong>in</strong>g. The person responsible for the study programme is Barbara<br />

von Orelli-Messerli.<br />

Entry requirements<br />

Applicants should have an university degree <strong>and</strong> experience <strong>in</strong> the field of mobile works of art.<br />

Students are university graduates from Switzerl<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> Europe.<br />
