Background, orientation <strong>and</strong> purpose<br />

SAWI was established <strong>in</strong> 1968. Over 450 practitioners teach at SAWI, professionals who have proven<br />

throughout their careers that they are masters of their trade. From time to time, lecturers <strong>in</strong> specialist<br />

subjects are deployed who pass on their knowledge of how to teach. In this way, the latest <strong>in</strong>sights<br />

<strong>in</strong>to adult education are implemented through teach<strong>in</strong>g. Along with an adm<strong>in</strong>istrative staff of twenty,<br />

the <strong>management</strong> responsible for courses <strong>and</strong> lecturers support the tutors with regard to methodology<br />

as well as with further tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> development, e.g. through jo<strong>in</strong>t ventures <strong>and</strong> the <strong>in</strong>volvement of<br />

<strong>in</strong>ternational lecturers from the most renowned European universities.<br />

As market<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> communications are so diverse, yet closely l<strong>in</strong>ked, lead<strong>in</strong>g professionals from<br />

various <strong>in</strong>dustries meet each other at SAWI. They fire each other’s imag<strong>in</strong>ations, f<strong>in</strong>d solutions, <strong>and</strong><br />

work together with SAWI on concepts for various courses <strong>and</strong> sem<strong>in</strong>ars. SAWI’s op<strong>in</strong>ion counts when<br />

it comes to debat<strong>in</strong>g exam<strong>in</strong>ation requirements for numerous federally recognised diplomas. In SAWI<br />

one can study for these without <strong>in</strong>terrupt<strong>in</strong>g one’s career. Most of our courses can be attended part-<br />

time.<br />

The ma<strong>in</strong> objective is to <strong>in</strong>troduce the basics of <strong>cultural</strong> <strong>management</strong>.<br />

Student performance is evaluated through exam<strong>in</strong>ations, papers <strong>and</strong> practical work/<strong>in</strong>ternship.<br />

Lecturers<br />

The number of teach<strong>in</strong>g personnel is 450, 50 of which are women. All 450 are visit<strong>in</strong>g. The person<br />

responsible for the study programme is Manfred Kranich.<br />
