Background, orientation <strong>and</strong> purpose<br />

The University of Applied Arts Vienna was established <strong>in</strong> 1867. It is devoted to the cultivation <strong>and</strong><br />

ref<strong>in</strong>ement of the arts, as well as to relevant teach<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> research. There are 1,100 students from 26<br />

countries attend<strong>in</strong>g the university, which has 340 faculty members. Approximately 120 students<br />

graduate each year.<br />

Content<br />

Goals of the programme: The complex components of science, eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g, art, culture <strong>and</strong> bus<strong>in</strong>ess<br />

have to be represented <strong>and</strong> communicated clearly, comprehensibly, but above all, attractively <strong>in</strong><br />

projects with economical, <strong>cultural</strong>, educational <strong>and</strong> organisational quality st<strong>and</strong>ards.<br />

Evaluation <strong>and</strong> assessment<br />

Student performance is evaluated through research, practical work/<strong>in</strong>ternship <strong>and</strong> a f<strong>in</strong>al paper/thesis.<br />

Lecturers<br />

There are 379 teach<strong>in</strong>g personnel with<strong>in</strong> the entire university, 135 of whom are female; 372 are<br />

permanent <strong>and</strong> seven are visit<strong>in</strong>g. The person responsible for the tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g programme is Dr Renate<br />

Goebl.<br />

Entry requirements<br />

Applicants should have a university degree or several years relevant professional experience. Other<br />

requirements are practical experience <strong>in</strong> one of the professional branches for which the course<br />

provides qualification, good written <strong>and</strong> spoken comm<strong>and</strong> of German <strong>and</strong> English (knowledge of other<br />

foreign languages is desirable) <strong>and</strong> successful completion of the admissions procedure/entrance<br />

sem<strong>in</strong>ar.<br />
