Background, orientation <strong>and</strong> purpose<br />

FINLAND<br />

The Arts Academy at Turku Polytechnic offers degree-level programmes <strong>in</strong> F<strong>in</strong>e Art, Perform<strong>in</strong>g Arts,<br />

Music, <strong>and</strong> Media & Communication. In 2002 the <strong>in</strong>stitution launched a new programme <strong>in</strong> Media<br />

Management which aims to tra<strong>in</strong> already highly-qualified professionals for different media.<br />

BA <strong>in</strong> Media Management.<br />

Duration<br />

4 years (full-time).<br />

Content<br />

The content of the programme <strong>in</strong>clude four ma<strong>in</strong> themes:<br />

1) Basics <strong>in</strong> Media;<br />

2) Leadership <strong>and</strong> F<strong>in</strong>anc<strong>in</strong>g;<br />

3) Market<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> PR; <strong>and</strong><br />

4) Projects.<br />

Assessment is based upon active participation dur<strong>in</strong>g lectures, essays <strong>and</strong>/or tests.<br />

International/European dimension<br />

The <strong>in</strong>stitution is a member of ENCATC. With<strong>in</strong> the Nordic countries the Arts Academy co-operates<br />

with Sweden, Norway, Icel<strong>and</strong>, Denmark <strong>and</strong> Greenl<strong>and</strong> via the Nord-plus programme.<br />

There are also co-operation programmes <strong>and</strong> student exchange programmes (Socrates/Erasmus) with<br />

the Netherl<strong>and</strong>s, the UK, Portugal, Belgium, Czech Republic, Pol<strong>and</strong>, Estonia, <strong>and</strong> Latvia.<br />

Evaluation <strong>and</strong> assessment<br />

Assessment is based upon active participation dur<strong>in</strong>g lectures, essays <strong>and</strong>/or tests.<br />

Lecturers<br />

There are 1 full-time <strong>and</strong> 2 part-time lecturers, <strong>and</strong> freelancers who are hired for <strong>in</strong>dividual courses <strong>in</strong><br />

special areas. The person responsible for the programme is Arja Tulonen.<br />

Entry requirements<br />

Students are expected to have matriculated from high school with an above-average grade. Some<br />

previous experience <strong>in</strong> the media is required.<br />

Student profile<br />

The average age of students is 23.<br />
