Background, orientation <strong>and</strong> purpose<br />

The Ironbridge Institute, established <strong>in</strong> 1980, aims to provide core tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the essential managerial<br />

skills required by those employed <strong>in</strong> the heritage sector. It does this by provid<strong>in</strong>g tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g grounded <strong>in</strong><br />

relevant <strong>and</strong> up-to-date practical experience <strong>in</strong> the real world. The tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g is delivered by those<br />

work<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the sector or by visits examples of the best practices. The goal is to <strong>in</strong>troduce students to<br />

the essential core competencies required by the field so they can be equipped with the necessary skills<br />

to succeed.<br />

Postgraduate Diploma / MA <strong>in</strong> Heritage Management:<br />

This course provides managers work<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the museums <strong>and</strong> heritage sector with transferable skills<br />

<strong>and</strong> professional practice <strong>in</strong> four key areas: conservation, bus<strong>in</strong>ess <strong>management</strong> <strong>and</strong> f<strong>in</strong>ance,<br />

market<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>terpretation.<br />

Evaluation <strong>and</strong> assessment<br />

Student performance is evaluated through a f<strong>in</strong>al paper/thesis <strong>and</strong> practical work/<strong>in</strong>ternship.<br />

Lecturers<br />

There are three teach<strong>in</strong>g personnel; all are men, all are permanent. Persons responsible for the study<br />

programmes (Postgraduate Diploma / MA <strong>in</strong> Heritage Management) are David de Haan <strong>and</strong> Dr Roger<br />

White.<br />

Entry requirements<br />

Applicants should have a university degree <strong>and</strong> appropriate experience.<br />
