International/European dimension<br />

Profiles: Latvia<br />

With<strong>in</strong> the last three years the school has ga<strong>in</strong>ed experience <strong>in</strong> co-operation with the Leonardo da<br />

V<strong>in</strong>ci programme. We have participated <strong>in</strong> two pilot projects; "Management of Culture <strong>and</strong> New<br />

Information Technologies" as a coord<strong>in</strong>ation partner, <strong>and</strong> "Management <strong>Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g</strong> for Cultural<br />

Managers" as a partner. We have implemented two mobility projects <strong>in</strong> our school by send<strong>in</strong>g our<br />

students to Sweden, the United K<strong>in</strong>gdom <strong>and</strong> F<strong>in</strong>l<strong>and</strong> for practical tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g.<br />

Riga Dome Choir School is the only school <strong>in</strong> Latvia with plans to establish its own studio. So far we<br />

have been one of the few music schools with a computer classroom <strong>and</strong> skilled students <strong>in</strong> NIT.<br />

The <strong>in</strong>stitution is a member of International Education Society (www.ies-<strong>in</strong>fo.com) <strong>and</strong> an associate<br />

member of ENCATC.<br />

Special <strong>in</strong>formation<br />

RDKS has published a ‘F<strong>in</strong>al Report of the pilot project <strong>in</strong> frame of Leonardo da V<strong>in</strong>ci programme’ <strong>in</strong><br />

2001, written <strong>in</strong> Latvian <strong>and</strong> English.<br />

Evaluation <strong>and</strong> assessment<br />

The evaluation of students is made through obligatory attendance, self-study <strong>and</strong> practical<br />

work/<strong>in</strong>ternship.<br />

Lecturers<br />

The number of teach<strong>in</strong>g personnel is 107 <strong>in</strong> the School (18 for the Music Management Specialty), of<br />

which 90 (13 <strong>in</strong> the Music Management Specialty) are women. Fifty-one teachers <strong>in</strong> the School (9 <strong>in</strong><br />

the Music Management Specialty) are permanent <strong>and</strong> 56 (9 <strong>in</strong> the Music Management Specialty) are<br />

visit<strong>in</strong>g. The person responsible for the Conduct<strong>in</strong>g, Choir Conduct<strong>in</strong>g programme is Mr Janis<br />

Erenstreits. Mrs Jolanta Klisane is responsible for the Music Management programme.<br />

Entry requirements<br />

Conduct<strong>in</strong>g, Choir Conduct<strong>in</strong>g:<br />

M<strong>in</strong>imum age of 15 years, with elementary musical education.<br />

Music Management:<br />

M<strong>in</strong>imum age of 18 years <strong>and</strong> secondary school certificate.<br />

Student profile<br />

In the Conduct<strong>in</strong>g, Choir Conduct<strong>in</strong>g programme, the age of students is 15-20.<br />

Around 10 percent of the student body is <strong>in</strong>ternational.<br />
