REGULAR HIDING PLACES AND PRECAUTIONS<br />

The problem <strong>is</strong> not merely one <strong>of</strong> resting and marshaling out<br />

troops. We require a place that can also be used for conserving ammunition<br />

and food and for receiving and looking after wounded and<br />

sick soldiers. Hence, <strong>the</strong> place in question commonly serves also as<br />

a supporting point in time <strong>of</strong> battle. As soon as we are <strong>the</strong> objects<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> enemy’s pursuit and attack, we withdraw <strong>the</strong>re, and secretly<br />

hide, so as <strong>to</strong> await an opportunity <strong>to</strong> act or <strong>to</strong> begin res<strong>is</strong>ting <strong>the</strong><br />

enemy again.<br />

2. THE CHOICE OF A SPOT<br />

1. A hiding place where we can rest for a long time may conveniently<br />

be found deep in <strong>the</strong> forest, in a thatched hut near a marsh,<br />

in a cave under DISTRIBUTION<br />

<strong>the</strong> ground or in a mountainside, on a lonely farm,<br />

or in a small and secluded hamlet. Because <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> sympathy it enjoys<br />

a small guerrilla unit normally has no difficulty at all in finding<br />

a regular hiding place.<br />

2. A guerrilla unit must absolutely maintain <strong>the</strong> strictest secrecy<br />

regarding <strong>the</strong> hiding places it has selected. Even one’s closest friends<br />

and relatives must not be informed if <strong>the</strong>y have no connection with<br />

<strong>the</strong> guerrilla unit in question. If our original hiding place has been<br />

d<strong>is</strong>covered by <strong>the</strong> enemy, <strong>the</strong>n, in general, we should not wait for <strong>the</strong><br />

enemy <strong>to</strong> come and attack us but must quickly remove elsewhere.<br />

3. Sometimes such hiding places also serve as s<strong>to</strong>re-houses for<br />
