1. Detoxication by excretion in the urine unchanged or as glucuronic acid, glycine or sulfate conjugates; aldehyde groups undergo oxidation or reduction<br />

to the corresponding carboxylic acid or alcohol, respectively, followed by conjugation and excretion; O-dealkylation followed by decarboxylation and<br />

reduction <strong>of</strong> benzyl groups to the methyl analogue.<br />

2. Detoxication as in note 1 plus hydrolysis <strong>of</strong> esters to corresponding benzoic acid derivatives or acetal hydrolysis to the parent benzaldehyde derivative<br />

and simple aliphatic alcohol.
