First day of the April Session of the Board of Commissioners of<br />

<strong>Saginaw</strong> <strong>County</strong>, Michigan, Tuesday, April 24, <strong>2001</strong>. The Board met<br />

pursuant to adjournment at 5:00 p.m.<br />

Honorable Robert L. Fish in the Chair.<br />

Deputy Clerk Kaye Volz Schultz took roll, quorum present as<br />

follows:<br />

PRESENT: Raymond F. Bartels, Thomas A. Basil, Robert D. Blaine,<br />

Jeanine A. Collison, Robert L. Fish, Eddie F. Foxx, James M.<br />

Graham, Kenneth B. Horn, Richard F. Mallette, Michael P. O'Hare,<br />

Carl E. Ruth, Connie D. Smith, Robert M. Woods Jr., Patrick A.<br />

Wurtzel<br />

ABSENT: Todd M. Hare - 1<br />

TOTAL: 14<br />

Commissioner Wurtzel opened the meeting with a prayer, followed by<br />

the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.<br />

Minutes of the preceding meeting were approved as proofread and<br />

corrected by the Clerk.<br />

AUDIENCES<br />

The Clerk called on Timothy Genovese, Emergency Management<br />

Director. The Chair asked Commissioner Mallette to present the<br />

proclamation, as follows:<br />

PROCLAMATION<br />

WHEREAS, Industrial and agricultural chemicals to household<br />

detergents and air fresheners are part of our everyday lives; and,<br />

WHEREAS, Large quantities of chemicals are transported through,<br />

stored and used in <strong>Saginaw</strong> <strong>County</strong>; and,<br />

WHEREAS, Along with the benefits of chemicals, we need to be aware<br />

of the dangers these materials pose to our families and<br />

communities, as well as what measures we can take to reduce the<br />

hazards and avoid possible harm; and,<br />

WHEREAS, Knowledge of chemical hazards, employee safety training,<br />

proper use, storage and disposal of chemicals, along with<br />

appropriate community emergency response preparedness and actions<br />

will help minimize the possibility of accidents and unnecessary<br />

exposure.<br />

NOW, THEREFORE, I Robert L. Fish, Chair of the <strong>Saginaw</strong> <strong>County</strong><br />

Board of Commissioners do hereby proclaim the week of May 6 to 12,<br />

<strong>2001</strong>, as: CHEMICAL AWARENESS WEEK in the <strong>County</strong> of <strong>Saginaw</strong>, and in<br />

doing so urge all citizens, local units of government, local<br />

business, and the agricultural community to become familiar with<br />

chemical safety procedures, properly dispose of chemicals, reduce<br />

or eliminate extremely hazardous substances, and work with the
