REPORTS OF REGULAR COMMITTEES<br />

FROM: COMMITTEE ON HUMAN SERVICES -- 1.1 OCTOBER 16, <strong>2001</strong><br />

Your committee has considered communication no. 10-16-4 from Karen<br />

Courneya, Director, <strong>Saginaw</strong> <strong>County</strong> Commission on Aging asking to<br />

accept funds from Region VII for the Care Giver Training Program.<br />

The Care Giver Training Program provides assistance to people who<br />

provide inhome care, such as husbands, wives, children, etc.<br />

Their training will include infection control, fire, hazard and<br />

wheelchair safety, stress management, CPR and other safety<br />

technics.<br />

The grant is for a 13 month period from September 1, <strong>2001</strong> through<br />

September 30, 2002 in the amount of $46,109. It includes a<br />

position of Case Worker P03. The 10% local match will be met<br />

through in-kind services.<br />

It is our recommendation that the <strong>Saginaw</strong> <strong>County</strong> Commission on<br />

Aging be authorized to accept the funds from Region VII for the<br />

Care Giver Training Program, as outlined above; further, that the<br />

proper <strong>County</strong> officials be authorized and directed to execute the<br />

necessary documents on behalf of the <strong>County</strong> subject to review by<br />

the Controller as to substance and Counsel as to legal form, and<br />

to amend the budget and personnel complement in accordance with<br />

<strong>County</strong> Policy and Procedure.<br />

FROM: COURTS & PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE -- 2.1 OCTOBER 16, <strong>2001</strong><br />

Your committee has considered communication no. 10-16-3 from<br />

Sheriff Charles Brown requesting authorization to accept <strong>2001</strong> Law<br />

Enforcement Block Grant funds from the United States Department of<br />

Justice.<br />

This grant in the amount of $108,533 is designated to sustain law<br />

enforcement operations. <strong>Saginaw</strong> <strong>County</strong>'s local match of $10,853<br />

or approximately 10% will come from within the Sheriff Department<br />

budget.<br />

We recommend approval for the Sheriff Department to accept the<br />

grant funds from the United States Department of Justice, as<br />

outlined; further, that the proper <strong>County</strong> Officials be authorized<br />

and directed to sign the necessary documents on behalf of the<br />
