DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. DAY<br />

UNITY LUNCHEON<br />

WHEREAS, Monday, January 15, <strong>2001</strong> at 11:00 a.m. at <strong>Saginaw</strong> Civic<br />

Center marks the Fifth Annual Keeping the Dream Alive Dr. Martin<br />

Luther King, Jr., Unity Luncheon. The luncheon will be preceded<br />

by a Unity March at 10:00 a.m.; and,<br />

WHEREAS, This luncheon held in commemoration of the legacy of Dr.<br />

King was instituted by the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Iota<br />

Chi Lambda Chapter, Consumers Energy Minority Employees and PRIDE<br />

in <strong>Saginaw</strong> as a means to promote and spotlight brotherhood in the<br />

community; and,<br />

WHEREAS, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., founded in 1906 at<br />

Cornell University, Ithaca, New York was the first Black College<br />

Fraternity. Alpha Phi Alpha represents very high principals of<br />

equality, scholarship, honor and pride; and,<br />

WHEREAS, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a member of the Alpha Phi<br />

Alpha Fraternity was a great preacher and civil rights leader who
