UNFINISHED BUSINESS<br />

Report 5-22-2.8 regarding additional funding for the Instrument<br />

Landing System at Browne Airport. As Vice Chair of the <strong>County</strong><br />

Services Committee (Chair Hare being absent), Commissioner Bartels<br />

withdrew the motion to approve made at the May Session;<br />

Commissioner Fish withdrew his support. The Controller explained<br />

the issues in the report are no longer relevant - funding has been<br />

secured from Buena Vista Township and land acquisition is not<br />

required.<br />

Report 5-22-2.9 regarding Michigan Works! Administration Information<br />

Technology Budget was withdrawn with the approval of Report<br />

6-22-3.5.<br />

ELECTION<br />

Chair Fish called for nominations to fill the position of Chief<br />

Medical Examiner for a term expiring December 31, 2004 (Dr. Varner<br />

resigned from the post earlier in the year pending election of a<br />

replacement).<br />

Commissioner Woods nominated Dr. Kanu Virani. Chair Fish asked for<br />

further nominations three consecutive times. There being no<br />

further nominations, Commissioner Graham moved, supported by<br />

Commissioners Woods to close nominations and cast a unanimous<br />

ballot for Dr. Kanu Virani. Motion carried.<br />

Commissioner Woods moved, supported by Commissioner Mallette that<br />

the Controller and Health Officer be authorized and directed to<br />

negotiate an agreement with Dr. Virani, pending <strong>County</strong> Attorney<br />

review. Motion carried.<br />

ANNOUNCEMENTS BY THE CHAIR<br />

Chair Fish reminded commissioners of the Roethke House tour and<br />

dinner immediately following the Board. Friends of Theodore<br />

Roethke, a Pulitzer Prize winner, are restoring the Poet's Home<br />

located at 1805 Gratiot.<br />
