Your Legislative Subcommittee at the request of Commissioner Mike
O'Hare reviewed House Bill 4823 sponsored by State Representative
Gene DeRossett to remove the mandatory helmet requirement for
motorcycle riders and passengers.
We believe the statewide mandatory motorcycle helmet law
significantly reduces the severity of injury, the likelihood of
death and the overall cost of medical care. For these reasons, we
support the current law and oppose efforts to alter it.
Under the proper order of business the appropriate resolution will
be submitted.
