Board of Commissioners May 22, <strong>2001</strong><br />

WHEREAS, Richard E. Jozwiak was born on December 9, 1931 in<br />

<strong>Saginaw</strong>, Michigan. He attended St. Rita Elementary School and St.<br />

Joseph High School in <strong>Saginaw</strong>, and St. Mary's College in Orchard<br />

Lake; and,<br />

WHEREAS, Father Jozwiak was ordained a priest on December 20,<br />

1959 in Rome. During his tenure he was assigned to the following<br />

Parish's:<br />

St. Hyacinth in Bay City as Assistant - August 16, 1960<br />

St. Agnes, Pinconning as Pastor - May 11, 1965<br />

St. Stanislaus, Bay City as Pastor - October 14, 1969<br />

St. Michael, Pinconning as Pastor - July 12, 1979<br />

Sacred Heart, Mt. Pleasant as Pastor - July 9, 1985<br />

St. Josaphat, Carrollton as Pastor - July 11, 1991<br />

Father Jozwiak also has served as Diocesan Director of<br />

Vocations, and Diocesan Consulter; and,<br />

WHEREAS, During his assignment at Sacred Heart, Father<br />

Jozwiak received the "Francis Award", an honor bestowed by the<br />

fellow priests of the Diocese of <strong>Saginaw</strong> for outstanding<br />

achievement in the Pastoring of a Parish; and,<br />

WHEREAS, Father Jozwiak spear-headed and completed Project<br />

2000 at St. Josaphat Parish, adding six classrooms to the Church's<br />

educational facilities; and,<br />

WHEREAS, Father Jozwiak is dedicated to the Veterans at the<br />

VA Hospital in <strong>Saginaw</strong>, where he serves two days a week; and,<br />

WHEREAS, For over forty years Father Jozwiak has faithfully<br />

served the Lord. He is devoted to Pope John Paul II; loves Rome<br />

and the Vatican. He travels to Rome almost every year, taking tour<br />

groups to visit his beloved country and to show them the roots of<br />

their Christian heritage. Father has also visited the Holy Land,<br />

Poland and most of Europe several times.<br />

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That a unanimous accolade of<br />

tribute be hereby accorded Reverend Father Richard E. Jozwiak.<br />

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be<br />

transmitted to Father Jozwiak as evidence of our great respect for<br />

his tireless devotion to the Church and its parishioners.<br />

WHEREAS, On Thursday, June 7 through Saturday, June 9, <strong>2001</strong>,<br />

Pastor, P. David Saunders and the Bethel A.M.E. Church located at<br />

535 Cathay, have the honor of hosting the 58th Annual Lay<br />

Convention of the African Methodist Episcopal Church; and,<br />

WHEREAS, The Lay Convention is an intricate part of the church<br />

structure composed of Lay members of the A.M.E. Church. Its main<br />

focus is to organize and train the Laity of the Church in
