Board of Commissioners August 14, <strong>2001</strong><br />

WHEREAS, On July 9, <strong>2001</strong>, eight-year-old Kyle J. Pender put his<br />

heroic tactics into action by saving the life of 15-month-old<br />

Harrison Lamont when he fell into a Kochville Township swimming<br />

pool. Kyle said: "I just dived down and got him. I didn't even<br />

have goggles on;" and,<br />

WHEREAS, This is not the first rescue that has taken place say<br />

parents Kevin and Carol. At the age of four, Kyle saved an infant<br />

girl from drowning at her first birthday party by holding her head<br />

above water after he saw her tumble into a wading pool; and,<br />

WHEREAS, The third-grader who attends St. Josaphat School and who<br />

is a member of Cub Scout Pack 3327, Den 10 has been described to<br />

have heroic abilities. Lifeguard is listed on his resume twice;<br />

and,<br />

WHEREAS, It is likely these two great profound incidents happening<br />

in Kyle's life may qualify him for a Certificate of Merit or a<br />

Medal of Merit from the Boy Scouts of America organization<br />

headquarters in Irving, Texas; and,<br />

WHEREAS, Although his family is very proud of him, Jennifer L.<br />

Lamont the mother of the toddler rescued, is ecstatic by the quick<br />

reactions that saved her son's life. Quote: "He is an angel"; and,<br />

WHEREAS, This remarkable boy wants to become a firefighter or a<br />

police officer when he grows up. "An excellent choice Kyle."<br />

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the <strong>Saginaw</strong> <strong>County</strong> Board of<br />

Commissioners does hereby express its deep admiration and<br />

gratitude to Kyle Pender for a job well done. We wish him success<br />

in his future endeavors.<br />

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this expression of recognition be<br />

spread upon the minutes of the August 14, <strong>2001</strong> meeting as a<br />

permanent record and duly inscribed upon parchment and presented<br />

to him.<br />

Commissioner Mallette presented Ms. Elaine Cook with a resolution<br />

acknowledging her son Jason Richardson. She said, "Jason has<br />

received many awards, but it's nothing like getting an award from<br />

your home."<br />

WHEREAS, All of Michigan is eager to laud the outstanding <strong>2001</strong><br />

Golden State Warrior NBA draft pick Jason Richardson for his<br />

remarkable gift in basketball; and,<br />

WHEREAS, The 20-year-old Arthur Hill High School graduate is an<br />

excellent example of how hard work and dedication reward those who<br />
