Mrs. Kelley Fehn's class - St. Peter Lutheran<br />

Beverly Yanca, Activities Volunteer Coordinator, Commission on<br />

Aging appeared on behalf of Director Karen Courneya to accept a<br />

proclamation designating May as Older Americans Month.<br />

Commissioner Bob Blaine presented the proclamation.<br />

PROCLAMATION<br />

WHEREAS, In 1963, the tradition began of setting aside the month<br />

of May as Older Americans Month, a special time to honor the<br />

Country's older Americans; and,<br />

WHEREAS, Seniors are the fastest growing segment of our<br />

population. They are also among our most prized resources,<br />

contributing their knowledge, skills and experience to their<br />

communities; and,<br />

WHEREAS, Throughout the month of May, localities nationwide are<br />

celebrating Older Americans Month with a range of activities to<br />

recognize their senior citizens; and,<br />

WHEREAS, This year's national theme for Older American's Month is<br />

"The Many Faces of Aging," which recognizes aging as a global<br />

issue exhibiting the nation's rapidly increasing multi-cultural<br />

and multi-generational aging population; and,<br />

WHEREAS, It is important for local governments to support caregivers<br />

because of the important functions they carry out in the<br />

daily lives of our families and the significant role they play in<br />

ensuring our community's older adults can age with respect,<br />

independence and dignity.<br />

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, I, Robert L. Fish, Chairman of the<br />

<strong>Saginaw</strong> <strong>County</strong> Board of Commissioners, do hereby proclaim the<br />

month of May, <strong>2001</strong> as: OLDER AMERICANS MONTH in the <strong>County</strong> of<br />

<strong>Saginaw</strong> and in doing so urge all citizens to honor elders<br />

throughout the year and to promote activities and services that<br />

contribute to the health, welfare and independence of our older<br />

residents.<br />

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the<br />

seal of the <strong>County</strong> of <strong>Saginaw</strong> to be affixed this 22nd day of May<br />

in the year of our Lord, two thousand and one.<br />

At 5:19 p.m., Chair Fish gave the second call of the Public<br />

Hearing being held on the Petition from the Village of Chesaning<br />

to annex certain lands from the Township of Chesaning to the<br />

Village. He called for comments three consecutive times, hearing<br />

none, he announced the Public Hearing would remain open.<br />

At 5:20 p.m., Chair Fish gave the second call of the Public<br />

Hearing being held on the Brownfield Redevelopment Plan for
