AUGUST <strong>2001</strong><br />

First day of the August Session of the Board of Commissioners of<br />

<strong>Saginaw</strong> <strong>County</strong>, Michigan, Tuesday, August 14, <strong>2001</strong>. The Board met<br />

pursuant to adjournment at 5:00 p.m.<br />

Honorable Robert L. Fish in the Chair.<br />

Deputy Clerk Kaye Volz Schultz took roll, quorum present as<br />

follows:<br />

PRESENT: Raymond F. Bartels, Thomas A. Basil, Robert D. Blaine,<br />

Jeanine A. Collison, Robert L. Fish, Eddie F. Foxx, James M.<br />

Graham, Todd M. Hare, Kenneth B. Horn, Richard F. Mallette,<br />

Michael P. O'Hare, Carl E. Ruth, Connie D. Smith, Robert M. Woods<br />

Jr., Patrick A. Wurtzel - 15<br />

ABSENT: - 0<br />

TOTAL: - 15<br />

Commissioner Ruth opened the meeting with a prayer, followed by<br />

the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.<br />

Minutes of the preceding meeting were approved as proofread and<br />

corrected by the Clerk.<br />

PUBLIC HEARING<br />

At 5:05 p.m., Chair Fish opened the Public Hearing on the proposed<br />

<strong>2001</strong>/2002 Fiscal Year <strong>County</strong> Budget and the proposed property tax<br />

millage rate to support it. No comments being heard, the Chair<br />

declared the Hearing would remain open. Copies were made available<br />

to the public.<br />

AUDIENCES<br />

The Clerk called on the following individuals who requested an<br />

audience before the Board. Their remarks are summarized.<br />

Dr. Neill Varner introduced Dr. Kanu Virani who replaces him as<br />

Chief Medical Examiner for <strong>Saginaw</strong> <strong>County</strong>. Dr. Virani thanked the<br />

Board for electing him to serve at the June Session. He explained<br />

the responsibilities of the post and his goals. A resume showing<br />

his qualifications was distributed.<br />

Commissioner Mallette presented eight-year-old Kyle J. Pender with<br />

a resolution recognizing his rescue of a 15-month-old infant after<br />

she fell into a pool. Sheriff Brown gave Kyle a Sheriff's patch.<br />

Kyle was accompanied by his parents and the parents and infant of<br />

the child he saved.<br />
