the guidance and instruction of the Coaches, the support and<br />

excitement of the Students, and the encouragement and sacrifice<br />

of the Parents that pulled together to bring home<br />

the first State crown in the history of Heritage High School.<br />

SAGINAW COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS<br />

Recorded in the Minutes of the June 26, <strong>2001</strong> Session<br />

Commissioner Basil addressed the Board: "Every year during<br />

Michigan Week, the Department of State recognizes outstanding<br />

Community Achievements and Outstanding Volunteer Leaders. This<br />

year, one of the Outstanding Volunteer Leaders in the State of<br />

Michigan is Dr. Eric Gilbertson, President of <strong>Saginaw</strong> Valley State<br />

University. Dr. Gilbertson was nominated by <strong>Saginaw</strong> <strong>County</strong> for his<br />

brainchild, the Crime Prevention Program, and his tireless efforts<br />

to achieve the Crime Prevention Program's goal of making <strong>Saginaw</strong><br />

<strong>County</strong> the safest community of its size in the United States by<br />

the year 2003. The Crime Prevention Program, which Dr. Gilbertson<br />

initiated, not only has made a huge difference in preventing crime<br />

in <strong>Saginaw</strong> <strong>County</strong>, but is now the acknowledged model for other<br />

Michigan communities in their efforts to deter and prevent crime.<br />

I have the honor and privilege of presenting this award to Dr.<br />

Eric Gilbertson, President of <strong>Saginaw</strong> Valley State University."<br />

Dr. Eric Gilbertson accepted the Award.<br />

The Club Motto:"Lifting As We Climb"<br />

WHEREAS, On Saturday, June 23, <strong>2001</strong> at 6:00 p.m. at the Best<br />

Western Hotel in <strong>Saginaw</strong>, Michigan, the Michigan State Association<br />

of Colored Women, Inc. will host their 106th Anniversary and 53rd<br />

Biennial Convention; and,<br />

WHEREAS, The club was organized in 1958 in the home of Mrs. Mable<br />

Robinson by a small number of dedicated Black Women with a dream<br />

to improve the Educational, Religious and Social Life of Black<br />

Women and Girls; and,<br />

WHEREAS, In 1960 the Women's Progressive Club became a chapter of<br />

the Michigan State Association of Colored Women's Club, Inc. which<br />

is affiliated with the Regional and National Association of<br />

Colored Women's Club Inc. in Washington, D.C.; and,<br />

WHEREAS, The Michigan State Association of Colored Women, Inc. is<br />

a community minded organization that supports numerous charitable<br />

endeavors, including: the Underground Railroad, the Rescue<br />

Mission, Edith Bailey School Washington, D.C. Trip, Good Neighbors<br />

Mission and the Restoration Center; and,<br />
