Board of Commissioners May 22, <strong>2001</strong><br />

hotel/motel owners and their families will remain in the<br />

community while SMG are strangers with only a five year<br />

contract. Wurtzel who said he voted against putting this<br />

issue on the ballot stated that this is something that the<br />

Board has already discussed and agreed upon; further, it<br />

would be unfair to have residents pay for a ticket surcharge.<br />

Collison went on to say that the 1% hotel/motel tax increase<br />

was the recommendation of the Building Authority and<br />

something she felt would not be as drastic as a ticket<br />

surcharge. Mallette said he talked with several hotels in<br />

his district. They had no problem with the 1%. Motion to<br />

approve 2.11 carried with nay votes recorded for Blaine, Horn<br />

and O'Hare.<br />

4.4) Recommendation, re: repeal of several Local Acts<br />

---Horn moved, supported by Fish to approve 4.3 and 4.4. There<br />

was an exception to 4.3. Motion to approve 4.4 carried. Basil<br />

was opposed to an increase in fees when the cost to operate<br />

the Register of Deeds Office is $390,000 with revenues over 1<br />

million dollars. Motion to approve 4.3 carried with nay votes<br />

recorded for Basil and Wurtzel.<br />

VI. Adjournment---Wurtzel moved, supported by Collison to<br />

adjourn. Motion carried, time being 6:02 p.m.<br />
