REPORTS OF REGULAR COMMITTEES<br />

FROM: COURTS & PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE -- 1.1 SEPTEMBER 18, <strong>2001</strong><br />

Your committee has considered communication no. 9-18-9 from<br />

Sheriff Charles Brown requesting authorization to accept a<br />

continuation grant from the Office of Highway Safety Planning in<br />

the amount of $38,000 for Fiscal Year 2002.<br />

This grant, designated for overtime enforcement activities, will<br />

be used to enforce speed, OUIL, seat belt and intersection laws.<br />

The Sheriff Department will manage the project. No matching funds<br />

are required.<br />

We recommend approval for the Sheriff Department to accept the<br />

grant funds from the Office of Highway Safety Planning, as<br />

outlined; further, that the proper <strong>County</strong> Officials be authorized<br />

and directed to sign the necessary documents on behalf of the<br />

<strong>County</strong>, subject to review by the Controller as to substance and<br />

Counsel as to legal form, and to amend the budget accordingly.<br />
