Board of Commissioners November 13, <strong>2001</strong><br />

The Heritage boys finished with a team score of 61 to win the<br />

Class A Division for the first time in the School's history.<br />

Some solid individual performances also came into play, with<br />

several players recording their personal best times ever.<br />

The <strong>Saginaw</strong> Valley League is comprised of eleven Class A<br />

(Division 1) schools from Bay City, Flint, Midland and <strong>Saginaw</strong>.<br />

The team is coached by Peter Bartels. The team members are:<br />

Coach Bartels lauded praise on his team for coming a long way in<br />

the last six years and acknowledged their efforts and ability to<br />

continually improve.<br />

RESOLUTION OF RECOGNITION<br />

Presented To:<br />

DR. AVA E. LEWIS<br />

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not to your<br />

own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall<br />

direct thy path.” - Proverbs 3:5-6<br />

WHEREAS, On Saturday, November 10, <strong>2001</strong> at 11:00 a.m., the 21st<br />

Century Women’s Club of <strong>Saginaw</strong>, a Chapter of the Michigan State<br />

Association and National Association of Colored Women’s Club, Inc.<br />

will present its Annual Scholarship & Honors Luncheon at the<br />

<strong>Saginaw</strong> Plaza Hotel; and,<br />

WHEREAS, The theme is, “Trusting in the Lord,” Proverbs 3:5. The<br />

Club Motto is “Lifting As We Climb, Caring and Sharing As We Go.”<br />

Dr. Betty B. Jones is the speaker for this occasion; and,<br />

WHEREAS, This year, Dr. Ava Lewis is the recipient of the “Terry<br />

L. Clark Community Service Award.” Ava, a native of <strong>Saginaw</strong> is the<br />

fourth of seven children of Mrs. Nelia Lewis and the late Mr.<br />

Napoleon Lewis. She has seven God children; and,<br />

WHEREAS, Dr. Lewis received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a<br />

Master of Science in Nursing Education from <strong>Saginaw</strong> Valley State<br />

University. She earned a Doctor of Philosophy, Family and Child<br />

Ecology from Michigan State University. A registered Nurse for<br />

twenty years, Dr. Lewis has worked in a variety of areas, her<br />

favorite being education and public/community health. Presently<br />

she is an Associate Professor of Nursing at <strong>Saginaw</strong> Valley State<br />

University; and,<br />

WHEREAS, Ava’s community involvement includes; a member of Delta<br />

Sigma Theta Sorority, Associate Dean, <strong>Saginaw</strong> Valley District<br />

Congress, Instructor, <strong>Saginaw</strong> Valley District & Wolverine State<br />
