There are some missing sections in the land-based railway corridormainly in Albania, between the Albanian border and Kicevo inMacedonia, between Kumanovo and Deve Bair (border to Bulgaria) andbetween the Bulgaria border and Gyueshovo.Within the European and trans-continental framework Corridor VIIIwill play an important role for the transport communications amongSouthern Europe, Northern Africa, the Caspian Basin, Central Asia,Russia and Ukraine. It is a new alternative for transport links among theabove-mentioned regions, that also includes great possibilities for usingwater transport, thus making haulage expenditures smaller, as comparedto other routes based entirely on land transport.
