The role played by knowledge in economicgrowth has no novelty.Schumpeter was the first to recognize the importance ofknowledge in the economy by sending it to “new combinations ofknowledge” in the centre of innovation and entrepreneurship (Schumpeter,1911, p. 57). Schumpeter also considers economic dynamic requiresconstant innovation and volatility, the idea being followedby other scholars such as Galbraith, Goodwin and Hirschman.Knowledge-based economy has gradually replaced industrial society,which is far from disappearing of the “industry”2. Means for Romania transition to knowledge economyBenefits from the knowledge revolution might see in our country ifthe focus should be on practical strategies to help the precession of thetransition to knowledge-based economy such as population properlyeducated and equipped to generate and use knowledge, systemsinnovation in enterprises and research centers. Also, interest in intangiblevalues should grow and transform them into the most important sourcesof competitive advantage. Traditional factors of production (materialresources, labor, capital) has to gradually reduce weight.Romanian concerns in the current crisis are hardly geared towardscience and technology and industry leading advanced and hightechnology that would lead our country towards a knowledge-basedeconomy, but only out of crisis measures.Romania's economy is an economy in the early stages ofdevelopment.
