18.17 OFF-SITE INFRASTRUCTURE18.17.1 KNIPPLE TRANSFER STATION SITE PREPARATIONThe Knipple Transfer Station facility will be located along the access road approximately5 km west of the Bowser airstrip. It is in a relatively flat terraced area understood to beabove historical flood levels, <strong>and</strong> positioned away from an existing creek. Previousactivities in the area used this location as a camp. Site preparation will include topsoilstripping, cut <strong>and</strong> fill, <strong>and</strong> pad surfacing. Site drainage will include surface drainage tothe perimeter <strong>and</strong> outlet to connect with existing drainage courses.18.17.2 KNIPPLE TRANSFER STATION FACILITIESThe Knipple Transfer Station facility layout will include a camp, transfer station, fueldispensing system, helipad, <strong>and</strong> laydown area as shown in Figure 18.11. All deliveries to<strong>and</strong> from the mill site will report to this facility. Loads from highway trucks will betransferred onto tracked vehicles that will transport the load across the glacier <strong>and</strong> to themill site. Similarly, loads from the mill site will be managed in reverse order.CAMPThe camp will be sized to accommodate 30 people, complete with kitchen, recreation,dormitories, <strong>and</strong> a sewage treatment plant. Offices will be included in the camp tomanage the shipping <strong>and</strong> receiving of goods. A diesel generator with backup will providepower to the camp <strong>and</strong> a potable water system will installed to distribute water. Awireless system will be installed for communications. An incinerator will be installedwithin a fenced area.TRANSFER STATIONA two-bay, pre-engineering building, complete with a 5 t overhead crane will beconstructed on this site for use as a transfer station. This station will be used to transfersmaller loads <strong>and</strong> to maintain vehicles on a temporary basis.
