The estimated cost for the above-mentioned recommended work is $200,000. Siteinvestigation activities associated with these recommendations have been included inthe underground and surface geotechnical costs.26.5 PROJECT INFRASTRUCTURE26.5.1 AVALANCHE HAZARD ASSESSMENTDuring the regular avalanche season (October through June), an avalanche managementprogram will be implemented in order to reduce risk to project personnel andinfrastructure. The program will include daily hazard and risk assessments by a qualifiedAvalanche Technician (or team of technicians) to forecast periods of elevated avalanchehazard so that closure of hazard areas can be implemented until hazard is reduced byavalanche explosive control or natural settlement. Avalanche explosive control methodsmay include hand charging, helicopter explosive control, and pneumatic explosivelaunchers (avalaunchers). The specific components and capital and operating costestimate inputs required for the Brucejack avalanche management program are outlinedin Table 7-1.Table 26.1Brucejack Avalanche Management Program ComponentsComponentInputs to CapitalCost EstimateInputs to OperatingCost EstimateCommentsPersonalprotectiveequipmentAvalanche transceiversMaintenance andreplacement asrequiredNumbers of PPE should includeenough for all personnel thatare working in or transitingavalanche hazard areasUp to four avalanche rescuecaches located in strategiclocationsMagazines located in strategiclocations – most likely onemagazine at mine site, and onein Bowser ValleyAvalanche rescueequipmentAvalanche rescue cachesMobile avalanche rescuepacksTwo explosives magazinesTwo pneumatic explosivelaunchers (avalaunchers)mounted on mobile platformsTwo weather stations (BowserValley and ridge top location)Maintenance andreplacement asrequiredExplosives andassociated materialsExplosivesprogramRemote telemetryweather stationsMaintenance of allassociatedequipmentMaintenanceOptimal locations of weatherstations to be determinedbefore or during mine start upSnowmobiles optionalTracked snowvehiclesOne tracked vehicle withenclosed cabSections of the access road affected by Paths AR4, AR8 and KG1 are exposed to highfrequency events that may have high consequences to traffic. Considering the expectedtraffic volumes along the access road an allowance has been made in the capital andoperating cost estimates for six fixed RACS to be installed in the starting zones of thesepaths. The RACS facilitate the ability to conduct avalanche control remotely duringreduced visibility when helicopters cannot fly (darkness and during storms).
