6.0 HISTORYInformation in this section has been excerpted and updated from Olssen and Jones(2012c). Olssen and Jones (2012a, b and c) excerpted and updated the information forthis section in its report from Ghaffari et al. (2012).The Property and the surrounding region have a history rich in exploration for preciousand base metals, dating back to the late 1800s. This section of the report describes themineral exploration, including the historical drilling, carried out prior to Pretivm’sacquisition of the Property. The historical data have been summarized mostly fromvarious assessment reports available through the BC MEMNG.In 1935, prospectors discovered copper-molybdenum mineralization on the SulphuretsProperty in the vicinity of the Main Copper Zone, approximately six km northwest ofBrucejack Lake; however, these claims were not staked until 1960.From 1935 to 1959, the area was relatively inactive with respect to prospecting;however, it was intermittently evaluated by a number of different parties, and severalsmall copper and gold-silver occurrences were discovered in the Sulphurets-MitchellCreek area.In 1960, Granduc Mines Ltd. (Granduc) and Alaskan prospectors staked the main claimgroup, covering the known copper and gold-silver occurrences, which collectively becameknown as the Sulphurets Property, starting the era of modern exploration, outlined asfollows:1960 to 1979 Granduc continued exploration, conducting further geological mapping, lithogeochemical sampling, trenching, and diamond drilling on knownbase and precious metal targets north and northwest of Brucejack Lake. This resulted in the discovery of gold-silver mineralization in the HangingGlacier area and molybdenum on the south side of the Mitchell Zone.1980 Esso Minerals Canada Ltd. (Esso) optioned the Property from Granducand subsequently completed an extensive program consisting ofmapping, trenching, and geochemical sampling that resulted in thediscovery of several showings including the Snowfield, Shore, West, andGalena zones. Gold was discovered on the peninsula at Brucejack Lakenear the Shore Zone.1982 and 1983 Exploration was confined to gold- and silver-bearing vein systems in theBrucejack Lake area at the southern end of the property from 1982 to1983. Drilling was concentrated in 12 silver- and gold-bearingstructures, including the Near Shore and West zones, located 800 mapart near Brucejack Lake. Drilling commenced on the Shore Zone.Pretium Resources Inc. 6-1 1291990200-REP-R0012-02Feasibility Study and Technical Report on the BrucejackProject, Stewart, BC
