20.0 ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES, PERMITTING,AND SOCIAL OR COMMUNITY IMPACT20.1 SUSTAINABILITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL MATTERS<strong>Pretivm</strong> is committed to operating the Project in a sustainable manner <strong>and</strong> according totheir guiding principles.20.1.1 GUIDING PRINCIPLES AND CRITERIAPROJECT DEVELOPMENT PHILOSOPHYEvery reasonable effort will be made to minimize long-term environmental impacts <strong>and</strong>ensure that the Project provides lasting benefits to local communities while generatingsubstantial economic <strong>and</strong> social advantages for shareholders, employees, <strong>and</strong> thebroader community.<strong>Pretivm</strong> is committed to sustainable resource development which balancesenvironmental, social, <strong>and</strong> economic interests. <strong>Pretivm</strong> will comply with regulatoryrequirements <strong>and</strong> apply technically proven <strong>and</strong> economically feasible methodologies toprotect the environment throughout exploration, mining, processing <strong>and</strong> closureactivities.Environmental management is a corporate priority that is integrated into all aspects ofthe organization which includes risk management, efficiency in development, design, <strong>and</strong>operation of facilities <strong>and</strong> that is implemented on a basis of continual improvement.PRECAUTIONARY PRINCIPLE<strong>Pretivm</strong> will use appropriate <strong>and</strong> cost-effective actions in all aspects of the Project toprevent serious or irreversible damage. The lack of full scientific certainty regarding theprobability of such effects occurring will not be used as a reason for postponing suchmitigation.TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE<strong>Pretivm</strong> respects the traditional knowledge of the Aboriginal peoples who have historicallyoccupied or used the Project area. <strong>Pretivm</strong> recognizes that it has significant opportunityto learn from people who may have generations of accumulated experience regarding thecharacter of the plants <strong>and</strong> animals, <strong>and</strong> the spiritual significance of the area.
