High voltage level: It sets the high voltage to the photo-multiplier. The recommended starting level is around 1000 V. Depending on the size of the particles, the laser power, the PDA optics and the position of the measurement volume in the flow, the optimum may be higher or lower. For optimum particle size measurements, you must have balanced signals, and an optimum combination of high voltage and signal gain. For balancing, adjust the high voltage of PDA2 and PDA3 till you get the same amplitude as LDA1. When this is obtained, set the Balance high voltage to Yes. You can now adjust the high voltage of all three channels using the LDA1 channel only. The gain of PDA2 and PDA3 is automatically set to the same level as LDA1. Optimisation should take both the Sensitivityand the Signal gain into account. The criterion may be the validation rate or the data rate or some compromise between them, depending on the application. The validation rate and data rate are displayed in the System monitor window. Balance High Voltage: It frequently occurs that two photomultipliers of the same type require different high voltage levels to generate the same signal amplitude. This is due to sensitivity variations. Once the high voltage levels for all PMs have been set accordingly, the Balance can be enabled to maintain the ratio. 5.3.3 BSA F/P 60 and 80 processors in Advanced User Interface Mode Processor properties: General The processor properties display depends on the selected User interface, Normal or Advanced. Normal user interface Advanced user interface User Interface It allows to choose between the Normal user interface for standard LDA and PDA measurements and Advanced user interface to fine tune the system. The Normal interface mod econfiguration is described in chapter 5.3.2. High voltage activation It can be Automatic, On or Off. It applies to all connected photomultipliers. When Automatic is chosen, the photo-multiplier high voltage is switched on only when needed: when the System monitor is active or when data acquisition (in repetitive mode or normal acquisition) is taking place. Automatic is recommended. When On is chosen, the photo-multiplier high voltage is permanently on. When Off is chosen, the photo-multiplier high voltage is permanently off. Anode current warning level It can be set from 50% to 150%. The setting determines at what level the System monitor indicates a warning about the photo-multiplier anode current. A protection circuit reduces the photo-multiplier high voltage if the mean anode current exceeds 100% of the Anode current limit (defined under LDA1). The peak anode current can exceed this limit during short intervals, hence the warning level can be set to exceed 100%. Data collection mode: For LDA and PDA, it can be Burst, Continuous, or Dead Time. In most cases, Burst or Dead Time mode is used. Briefly explained, Burst mode is used when high temporal resolution is required, e.g. if the required result is auto-correlation or turbulence spectrum data, or in connection with rotating machinery.
