Invalid particles in the corners The validated particles are inside the acceptance band. The red dots are the invalid particles. The invalid particles in the upper left and right corner and in the bottom right corner are too small particles to be validated or the signals are too noisy. By reducing the sensitivity of the PDA system (gain, PM High Voltage or Laser power, the number of particles in the corners is reduced but in the other hand, the system is not able to detect the smallest particles (no particles in the bottom left corner). Receiving probe orientation If the cloud of particles is slightly tilted relatively to the acceptance band,, the orientation and position of the receiving probe should be checked. It might be that the transmitting and receiving probes are note in the same plane or that the receiving probe is rotated around its optical axis.
