Tighten the cable securely at each end. Take care to protect the ends of the
fibre cable from dirt and from being scratched by putting the protective
plastic cap back on when the fibre is detached.
Shutter cable A shutter placed inside the PDA detector unit is activated during the
calibration routine to prevent external light from interfering with the
calibration signal. The coaxial cable supplied with the unit should be
connected to the BNC receptacle on the back panel (Figure 7-58 and Figure
7-59: Shutter) and to the shutter output on the back panel of the BSA signal
processor.
Photo-multipliers Three, four or five photo-multipliers are mounted inside the PDA detector
unit. Each of these is electrically connected to the socket on the back panel
of the unit (Figure 7-58 and Figure 7-59: PMT signal output, High voltage
input, and PMT auxiliary power).
7.5.1 The FiberPDA Detector Unit
The basic version of the 58N70 FiberPDA detector unit is configured for the
measurement of one velocity component and includes three 514.5 nm
(green) interference filters for the input channels U1, U2 and U3.
If the system is to be used with a He-Ne laser or Yag green laser based
transmitting system (e.g. the Dantec FlowLite), please make sure that three
632.8 nm (red) or 532nm (green) interference filters are mounted.
Colour separation For 2D configurations the 58N71 2D extension kit includes a 488 nm
interference
for 2D and 3D filter (blue) for the V channel and a color separator. Three green filters for
514.5 nm must be installed for the U1, U2 and U3 channels.
For 3D configurations the 58N72 3D extension kit includes a 476.5 nm
interference filter (violet) for the W channel and another color separator. The
58N71 2D extension kit must also be installed.
