5.14.2 Properties of the Moments object Figure 5-67 Properties of the moments object. Weighting Which weighting-scheme to use is selected in the property editor of the Moments object (See Figure 5-67).The property Weighting can be set to either None or Transit Time. The former corresponds to arithmetic weighting, while the latter mean that transit time weighting is used, see the section above. In this example one velocity component and two analog inputs are available, but only the LDA1 velocity is included in the moments-calculation. Cross-moments The property Cross-moments is used to determine which velocity components are used for the calculation of cross-moments: Left-Click the Value-field and then click the button to activate the dialog Select Cross-Moments shown in Figure 5-69. In this example from a PDA setup, a pair of velocity-components and a pair of analog inputs are chosen, but any combination of the Channels is possible. Again velocities from LDA1 and LDA4 are shown, but orthogonal velocity components U and V would have been available instead, if the parent object had been Transform. Calculate confidence The property Calculate confidence determines whether or not the confidence limits of the Mean and RMS values are included in the calculation, simply by setting this property to Yes/On or No/Off. For details about the confidence limits please refer to section 5.14.3. Skewness/flatness The property Skewness/flatness determines whether or not the higher order moments Skewness and Flatness are included in the calculation, by setting this property to Yes/On or No/Off. 5.14.3 Confidence limits The 95% confidence limits for the Mean and RMS values are computed on line during acquisition, based on the following expressions: Statistic Assuming normal distribution u Mean 1.96 × N 2 RMS 1.96 × u 2 N 2 For reliable results the expressions above require that N is ”large” (at least 30-50, preferably more), but that is normally not a problem in an LDA experiment.
