3.2 Installing software The BSA Flow software serves as the centralised interface for control of the BSA Processor and other equipment in the system and supports data analysis and presentation features. The minimum configuration of the BSA Flow software comprises the main software package. One or more options may be added for further functionality. Recommendation Make a backup of your old data prior to the installation of the new software. 3.2.1 Installation as restricted user Often organisations do not allow all users to have access to vital parts of the network and the client computers to protect the integrity of the system. It can therefore be necessary to install BSA Flow Software as restricted user on a multi-user or network computer. BSA Flow Software supports installation on computers with restricted access by following these guidelines. Restricted users are met with the following message during installation: Microsoft Windows XP provides enhanced file security compared with previous versions of Windows, such as Windows 95/98 and Windows NT. Unlike previous versions of Windows, only certain categories of users of Windows XP have read/write access to the file system and registry. Because of the security model in Windows XP, you must take special steps to install BSA Flow Software for Restricted Users of Windows XP systems. Before you install BSA Flow Software, be sure you have set up or have access to the following accounts for Windows XP: Administrator account: An account on the target system with Windows XP Administrator privileges (read/write access to the entire file system and registry). Restricted User account: An account that has limited read/write access to the file system and registry. This account should belong to the target user and may be a domain account. 3-4 BSA Flow Software: Installation
3.2.2 Installation as administrator The administrator of the target computer or network domain must be contacted to provide a user name and password for an administrator account on the target computer. When an installation is launched on a restricted user account, the user is asked for an administrator user name and password. The installation cannot succeed when continued as restricted user. After providing administrator rights, the installation will continue on the target computer under the target user account. The restricted user can now run the BSA Flow Software. Note that it is not possible to change or remove the installation as restricted user, this must be done from an administrative account on the target computer. To install the BSA Flow Software, insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive of the PC. If your PC supports the autostart feature, you will get the following screen display: BSA Flow Software: Installation 3-5
