Property group “Data”
Figure 6-22. Configuration determines the contents of the 3D Plot..
To configure a 3D Plot, select one data source from the X-axis field, the
second data source from the Y-axis field and the third data source from the
Z-axis field and click OK. To update the graph you have to click the Run
button or press F5.
The properties X bins, Y bins and Chart types are identical to those for the
2D histogram, see section 0.
The property Interpolate empty bins can be used to fill in “holes” in a plot.
This is done by an interpolation procedure. See the example in Figure 6-23
to Figure 6-25.
When set to No/Off, the plot may be white all over or have white areas in a
“checkerboard pattern”. This is because the plot routine assumes that data
are present in all bins along the X and Y axis. If some bins are empty, the
plot routine also discards data from a neighboruing bin.
When set to Yes/On, interpolated data are filled into the empty bins to
produce a plot without “holes”.
Note Interpolation should be used with care as it basically invents information
that was not there in the first place. Therefore, it should only be used if the
number of “plot bins” is slightly higher than the number of “data bins” so
that interpolation is acceptable.
If the number of “data bins” is higher than the number of “plot bins” the
interpolation has no effect.
