Most objects can save data, and they will do this as default. To check whether an object saves data or not, right-click the object’s icon, select Properties and see if the Save data in the current project is ticked. Saving disk space: You can save disk space by not saving data from all objects. If more data is required, it is therefore recommended to split the experiment into several smaller projects, each resulting in files smaller than 100 MB. If you are in doubt whether the operating system is being loaded too heavily, you can run the Windows Task Manager (Press CTRL-Alt-Delete and select Task Manager) to see how the memory usage (in kB) and the CPU usage (in %). If memory usage approaches the available amount of physical memory (RAM) there is a high risk of a system crash. The remedy is to reduce the file size. 3-2 BSA Flow Software: Installation
Directory structure CPU usage will often be 100% during short intervals, but if it is permanently 100%, the system is overloaded. A possible remedy is to disable as many objects as possible during acquisition (see chapter 4 and 5 for details). The BSA Flow Software’s extensive use of database technology means that you do not need to concern yourself with data files and their locations. However, to back-up your data it is useful to know the default file structure. When BSA Flow Software is installed, it will create the directories BSA Flow Software v4 under C:\Program Files\Dantec Dynamics\ for the program files (BSAFlow.exe, .dll,and others). Data will be stored at the following locations: Project files: Documents and Settings \\My Documents\ My Flow Projects Import, Export and template files: in subfolders to the above. BSA Flow Software v4 and an earlier version on the same PC BSA Flow Software v4 support the BSA F and P processors, whereas some earlier versions also support earlier processor types. If you need to use both types of processors with the same PC, you can keep the earlier version installed. Version 4 will be installed in a separate directory. The file formats and file extensions are identical for different versions. If you open a project by double-clicking on its icon in Windows Explorer, it will be opened with the BSA Flow Software version that was installed last. If BSA Flow Software v4 has been installed last, and you open a project using the earlier processor types, a message will appear saying that some objects are not supported, because the earlier processors are not supported in v3. Projects with earlier processors can only be opened in version 2.xx or earlier. Note To be sure to open projects with the required version of BSA Flow Software, start the proper version of BSA Flow Software first and open the project from there. It is recommended to create separate directories for projects from the different versions of BSA Flow Software. Compatibility with BURSTware, FLOware and SIZEware Old velocity files from BURSTware or FLOware, and size files from SIZEware can be imported in the BSA Flow software for analysis and presentation.
