Travelling to Milan<br />
Milan is one of Europe’s most accessible and welcoming<br />
cities. It has ancient origins – it was the capital of the<br />
Western Roman Empire and boasts a unique, worldfamous<br />
artistic heritage, of which the best known is<br />
Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper. There are countless<br />
impressive buildings in the city that have great character,<br />
in many different styles ranging from old Neo-classical<br />
Milanese palaces (palazzos) to ultra-modern towers and<br />
office blocks. Milan can easily be reached by air, train and<br />
road and has three airports: Malpensa (50km from city<br />
centre), Linate (20km from city centre) and Orio al Serio<br />

Private Airport Transfers<br />
Should you require private transfers from/to the airport,<br />
these can be booked via Worldspan Group. An online<br />
booking service is available on the AMEE 2014 website.<br />
Please note that bookings can only be made from/to the<br />
airport to your hotel or to the MiCo Centre. Should you<br />
wish to book transfers from a different location or need a<br />
larger vehicle than those available on the website, please<br />

AMEE 2014 sessions will take place in the South Wing<br />
of the MiCo – Milano Congressi, located in downtown<br />
Milan within walking distance of many hotels. For more<br />

Local Transportation<br />

The nearest metro stations to MiCo Congress Centre are<br />
Lotto Fierra or Amendola on the Red Line. For further<br />

Delegates attending the main AMEE Conference will<br />
receive a 5 day travel pass valid from Saturday to<br />
Wednesday, available when you collect your badge from<br />
the Registration desk.<br />
Car Parking<br />
Delegates who are travelling by car to the MiCo Congress<br />
Centre are advised to enter at Gate 17. The cost is €15<br />
Euros per day and is managed by an automatic cash<br />
machine that is paid when exiting. The machine accepts<br />
cash or credit cards.<br />
Useful Information<br />
Currency: the currency in Milan is the Euro (€).<br />
Although most businesses in Milan accept credit cards<br />
and bank debit cards, it is advisable to keep some cash<br />
on hand. ATMs are available at airports, train stations<br />
and throughout the city. At the time of going to press<br />
the exchange rate is £1 = €1.26; $1 = €0.73. For current<br />

Insurance: It is strongly recommended that you<br />
arrange your own travel insurance to cover the loss of<br />
possessions, money, any health or dental treatment or<br />
conference cancellation.<br />
Smoking: All conference locations being used by AMEE<br />
will be strictly no smoking.<br />
Electricity: As in most of continental Europe, electricity<br />
is supplied at 220v. Electrical sockets take standard<br />
European two-pin plugs. British, North American and<br />
other non-European tourists are advised to bring<br />
adaptors with them, which can usually be purchased at<br />
your departure airport.<br />
Weather: The climate in Milan is typically<br />
Mediterranean, with high temperatures and sunny days in<br />
the summer. Typical temperatures in August/September<br />
range from 11 C /52 F to 24 C /75 F .<br />
Children: Children are not permitted to attend any of<br />
the academic sessions and should not be left unattended<br />
at any time on Conference premises. Student Taskforce<br />
members are not permitted to supervise children and<br />
delegates are kindly requested to arrange their own<br />
childcare.<br />
