PUSHING TO THE FRONT
action Step #4 –
uTilize “baCk fRoM The fuTuRe” Thinking
I’ve put into practice an incredibly effective way to determine what
needs to be done – one that I first learned about from one of Brian
Tracy’s talks. Give it a try yourself.
1. Take out a sheet of paper. Envision yourself five years into the
future, having achieved the goal you now seek. Take a look at
every area of your life both professionally and personally, and
describe what you see, the success you are now experiencing.
2. Now, back it up to three years and look at your life again. Maybe
you’ve achieved the goal at this point or maybe you’re on the
verge of its accomplishment. Again, describe what you see.
3. Repeat the process for one year from now.
At each of these points in your future success vision, ask yourself,
“What action would I have had to take in my life professionally and
personally five years ago, three years ago, one year ago – in order for
me to have arrived at this milestone in my journey?” and… “What
steps and actions did I take at the very beginning that made all of this
success possible?”
I found this a very powerful way to get inside my own head and help
me to identify which of my decisions and actions are of paramount
importance right now. I hope you’ll find this exercise as empowering
as I have.
action Step #5 –
This action step was born out of a very frustrating and even overwhelming
time in my life when I was faced with a barrage of very complex
and life-changing decisions. There were decisions involving a career
path change with me stepping out into something I’d never tried before
along with matters in my personal life that needed attention – and all
required decisions NOW! I wasn’t sleeping, I was incredibly stressed,
and, of course, I was taking it out on everyone around me. The difference
came when I decided to get alone with myself and ask a series of
empowering questions.
