CHOICES
ues, take time to examine them and ask yourself, “Is this who I want to
be? Is this the legacy I want to establish? Is this the husband, father,
boss I want to be?”
The next time you have an important decision, look and see how it
lines up with your core values. It will almost make your choice for you.
Certainly this will take some time and effort, but soon it will become
second nature, developing habits and choices that will change the quality
of life, opening the door to an extraordinary life that will bring you
happiness and a life you will be proud of.
There is another huge factor at work. That is believing. The law of
believing is a universal law. It is like gravity, it doesn’t matter whether
you believe it or not, it is in action 24-7.
Science can explain how gravity works and even tell you the rate at
which something will fall. I will try to explain how the law of believing
works. Just as everything is a choice, everything is a form of believing.
The law says believing = receiving. You have positive believing and
negative believing. Positive believing is to have trust, faith, and confidence.
Negative believing is doubt, fear and worry. I believe Henry
Ford said it best when he said:
“Believe you can, or believe you can’t, either way you’ll be right.”
My point is that your believing will be a very strong influence in your
choices. Choose to stay positive. Why? Well, there’s another wellknown
quote: “You don’t always get what you want in life, but sooner
or later you get what you expect.” Even more specific is the biblical
verse, “as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.”
Let’s look at other aspects that impair or influence your choices. Certainly
substance abuse and alcohol can affect the choices you make. To
use or not is even a choice at first, yet can become a habit that makes
choices for you. It is well established that your choices become habits.
Habits that you first control but then they begin to control you.
Perhaps the best way to explain how people make poor choices is to
look at the two Greek words – Apastia and Apatheia. Apastia means
you haven’t been taught, or you haven’t been taught fully or completely.
In other words, if you’ve never been taught a law or don’t understand
it completely, you can make a very poor choice. How many times
