ourselves and in others. Therefore, the emotionally intelligent
person can harness emotions, even negative ones, and manage
them to achieve intended goals.
What is the common denominator in all of these definitions? The word
ability. It is not a gift – it is a learned skill that is a direct result of your
motivations and your discipline. Robert Verde’s motivation is clear, and
if you were to ask anyone that has ever met him, they would testify to
the fact that he has a heart of gold. Because of this desire to help others,
he exchanged his learning disabilities for life-changing abilities. The
kid on the bus to ever sit next to me without a malicious intent. He sat
down, asked me if I wanted to play a game, and we’ve been playing
the Game of Life together ever since. His decisive action in the face of
peer disapproval was a defining moment in both of our lives. We live by
I recently formed Poor Kid Enterprises, LP along with our partners Ryland
Aldrich and Jensen Millar. All of us started with nothing (or less)
and now run successful businesses and lead fulfilled lives. Ryland, who
will always be my little brother, grew up on the same property as I did
